Information

Komsomolsk-on-Amur is an industrial city in Russia’s Far East, in Khabarovsk Krai, located on the left bank of the Amur River. Founded in 1932 during the Soviet period, it was built as a major center for heavy industry and defense manufacturing, and it remains closely associated with aircraft and shipbuilding. The city is often called “the City of Youth” because it was developed largely by Komsomol (Communist Youth League) volunteers. Its layout reflects Soviet planning, with wide avenues, large squares, and monument-focused public spaces. The climate is sharply continental, with long, cold winters and warm summers. Despite its remote location, it serves as an important regional transport and industrial hub.
